Gregg Popovich, head coach for the San Antonio Spurs, is known as a sideline reporter’s worst nightmare. Pop is short, usually gives no answer, and can make you feel like a complete idiot. One of his usual nemesis on the sidelines is the famous TNT and TBS reporter, and world-renowned fashion icon, Craig Sager.
Sager was recently announced to be undergoing treatment for leukemia, and will be missing this year’s playoffs. In San Antonio’s first playoff game against the Dallas Mavericks, the usual Craig Sager was missing on the sidelines, but a younger one with longer hair showed up.
Craig Sager Jr. took over his father’s role and had to interview Popovich. The usual Pop was nowhere to be seen, and instead one of the best sports moments of the year took place as he paid tribute to the elder Sager.
Popovich’s message was sincere, strong, and heartfelt:
“Craig we miss ya, you’ve been an important part of all this for a long time, doing a great job. We want your fanny back on the court and I promise I’ll be nice.”
Sager will surely be missed as he’s an icon to the sidelines with his questions and outrageous suits. He’s been part of ‘NBA on TNT’ for 17 seasons now. Get well soon Craig, and much respect to Pop.
