For the second straight summer, Petaluma has a baseball team going to a World Series. Last year it was the young lions of Petaluma National Little League, as they became the third best Little League team in the nation. This year, an older Petaluma team is making history.
The Petaluma Leghorns defeated Las Vegas, Nev., 9-0, Monday afternoon to win the American Legion Western Regionals and advance to the American Legion World Series in Shelby, N.C. Petaluma will play its first game against the Mid-South winner on Friday Aug. 16. The tournament consists of the winners of the Central Plain, Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-South, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Western (Petaluma Leghorns) Regions. It lasts until Aug. 20.
